Scissors for needlework come in manty different sizes, shapes and types. Scissors come in two types of scissors: sewing
scissors and embroidery scissors. Both kinds
are available for right-handed-people as well as
left-handed people.
Sewing scissors. These are used to cut fabrics. The large blades must be perfectly sharpened from end to tip. Don't forget to sharpen them regularly, and from time to time, pass a steel pin along the length of the blade, following the direction of the cutting blade. Proceed in back and forth movements towards the tip of the blade. This method of sharpening is useful for all types of scissors.
Embroidery scissors.
Small and with a tapered point, these are used
for cutting embroidery thread as well as for
piercing the fabric in certain stitches (such as
Madeira embroidery, for example), or for trim-
ming the threads of the weave of fabric (as in
openwork embroidery). They measure about
5 inches long.
Choose embroidery scissors made of forged
steel since they are the most solid and are more
efficient than those made of molded metal.
